Quick Answer

In the United States, methylene blue is sold in five kinds of places: brand websites, online marketplaces, chemical and lab suppliers, aquarium stores, and by prescription through hospitals and compounding pharmacies. Only the first two sell it as a dietary supplement. The safest way to buy a supplement is from the brand's own site or from a marketplace listing where the seller named on the page is the brand itself. Most look-alike products come from a third-party storefront reusing a real brand's name and photos.

  • Check who is selling, not just what is pictured. On a marketplace, the seller name is a separate line from the product name.
  • Lab suppliers and aquarium stores are not supplement sellers. What they sell is made for lab work or fish tanks.
  • A real lab report is a document you can open. A logo or a badge on a product photo is not one.

Important: The FDA label for methylene blue injection (ProvayBlue) warns about serotonin syndrome with serotonergic medications, including SSRIs and MAOIs. Review the full adverse medications list before use.

The Five Places Methylene Blue Is Sold

The same compound shows up in very different stores, made to very different standards. Before comparing prices, it helps to know which kind of store you are in.

Where What it is selling What to check
A brand's own website A dietary supplement, sold by the company that makes it The grade on the label and a published third-party lab report
Online marketplaces Supplements from brands and from third-party resellers, mixed together on the same pages The seller name on the listing, and whether it is the brand
Chemical and lab suppliers Powder or solution made to a laboratory grade such as reagent Whether it is labeled for research or laboratory use only
Aquarium and pet stores A water treatment for fish tanks It is not sold as a dietary supplement
Hospitals and compounding pharmacies A prescription drug This route goes through a prescriber, not a shopping cart

The FDA states that it does not have the authority to approve dietary supplements before they are marketed. So no store in the first two rows is selling something the agency has reviewed in advance. That is why the seller and the lab report matter so much.

The last row is a different product. The FDA label for ProvayBlue describes methylene blue as an injection given by healthcare professionals. Compounding pharmacies can also prepare medicines by prescription, and the FDA notes that compounded drugs are not FDA-approved. If your healthcare provider wants you on a prescription form, that is their decision to make with you.

Marketplaces: Check Who Is Actually Selling

Marketplaces are convenient, and many real brands sell there, including us. The catch is that a marketplace is a building with many tenants. The product title and photos tell you what is being offered. A separate line tells you who is offering it.

On most marketplaces that line reads "Sold by" or "Seller," often with "Ships from" beside it. Look for it before you look at the price. If the seller name is the brand, you are buying from the brand. If it is a name you have never heard of, you are buying from a reseller, and the brand may have nothing to do with that listing.

  • Seller name matches the brand. This is the listing to buy from.
  • Seller name is unfamiliar. Treat it as a different store that happens to show the same product.
  • Price is far below the brand's own price. A real product rarely sells for a fraction of what its maker charges.
  • Reviews read alike or arrive in bursts. Our guide to quality red flags covers what manipulated reviews look like.

How Look-Alike Sellers Work

A look-alike seller does not need to make anything. The usual method is to copy a real brand's name, product photos, and description onto a new storefront, take the order, and ship whatever is cheapest. We know the pattern well because it has been done with our own name and photos, and we work to have those listings removed.

From the outside, a copied listing can look identical to the real one. These are the tells:

  • The storefront sells everything. Supplements sit next to perfume, phone cases, and kitchen gadgets, with no company information.
  • The photos are the brand's photos. Same bottle, same infographics, sometimes slightly blurred or altered.
  • There is no lab report to open. You may see a lab logo or a results graphic, but no actual document.
  • The contact page is thin. A web form and nothing else, or an address that does not match the brand.
  • The bottle that arrives is different. Different label, different capsule color, or powder that is not dark blue.

That last point is easy to test at home. Real methylene blue is intensely blue and colors water deep blue right away. Our lab and water test database shows how the products we have tested performed.

If a Package Arrives That You Did Not Order

Sometimes the first sign of a look-alike seller is a box on the doorstep. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service calls this a brushing scam: a seller sends merchandise nobody ordered to a real address, often so it can post reviews that look like verified purchases.

If that happens with a supplement, the practical steps are simple.

  1. Check your accounts. Look at your order history on the marketplaces you use to confirm nobody placed an order as you.
  2. Do not take it. A supplement you cannot trace to a seller you chose is not worth the risk.
  3. Report the seller to the marketplace. The Postal Inspection Service page linked above lists what else to do.

Nutricel does not send packages that were not ordered. If a box with our name on it arrives unrequested, it did not come from us. Our Authentic Nutricel page explains what to do next.

A Two-Minute Check Before You Order

You can run this check on any methylene blue product, from any seller, without contacting anyone.

  1. Read the seller line. Is the seller the brand itself, or a name you do not recognize?
  2. Find the grade. Look for USP on the label or product page. Words like reagent, lab grade, or "not for human consumption" mean it was not made as a supplement.
  3. Find the amount. Milligrams per capsule, or a percentage for liquid.
  4. Open the lab report. It should be a real document from a named independent lab with measured values. Our guide to reading a supplement lab report shows what a real one looks like.
  5. Look for a quality system. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements explains that FDA has set Good Manufacturing Practices for supplements, and that independent quality seals show a product was properly made but do not guarantee it is safe or effective.

Where Authentic Nutricel Is Sold

Authentic Nutricel products are sold through these channels only:

  • nutricel.store
  • Our official Amazon store
  • Our Walmart storefront
  • Our Etsy shop, NutricelSupplements
  • Our Shop app store

If you see "Nutricel" or "Blue Boost" offered anywhere else, it is not coming from us. The current list and the steps for checking a bottle are on our Authentic Nutricel page, and the third-party lab reports we publish are on our lab tests page. We make these products, so run the same two-minute check on us that you would run on anyone.

Who It Is Not For

Do not take methylene blue if you are currently using:

  • SSRIs or MAOIs (the FDA label warns of serotonin syndrome)
  • Any other serotonergic medication
  • If you are pregnant, nursing, or have G6PD deficiency, speak with your healthcare provider first

Review the full adverse medications list and consult your healthcare provider before starting methylene blue in any form.

Which Nutricel Product Is Right for You

Every Nutricel formula uses the same methylene blue. Third-party lab reports are on our lab tests page. Whether methylene blue fits you at all is a question for your healthcare provider.

If you and your provider decide it does, this is how our products differ:

Blue Boost

Blue Boost is our core formula: 12mg of methylene blue per capsule.

Blue Immune

Blue Immune combines methylene blue with copper, NAC, grass-fed beef liver, and vitamins A, C, and E.

Blue Shroom

Blue Shroom pairs methylene blue with six organic mushroom extracts including lion's mane, reishi, cordyceps, chaga, shiitake, and turkey tail.

Blue Renew

Blue Renew is built around GlyNAC (glycine and N-acetyl cysteine) alongside methylene blue.

Blue Remove

Blue Remove combines zeolite, curcumin, and nattokinase with methylene blue.

Blue Liquid

Blue Liquid delivers USP-grade methylene blue in a dropper bottle for liquid format.

The Bottom Line

Where you buy methylene blue decides what you are actually getting. Brand websites and brand-run marketplace listings sell supplements. Lab suppliers and aquarium stores sell something made for a different job. Prescription forms go through a healthcare provider.

Whichever route you use, spend two minutes on the seller name, the grade, the amount, and the lab report. A look-alike listing can copy a photo. It cannot copy a real lab document or become the brand on the seller line.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can you buy methylene blue in the US?

Methylene blue supplements are sold on brand websites and on online marketplaces. Chemical suppliers and aquarium stores also sell methylene blue, but those products are made for laboratory work or fish tanks, not as supplements. Prescription forms are handled by hospitals and compounding pharmacies through a healthcare provider.

Is it safe to buy methylene blue on Amazon or other marketplaces?

Many real brands sell on marketplaces. The key is the seller line on the listing. If the seller named is the brand itself, you are buying from the brand. If it is an unfamiliar third-party name, treat it as a different store and check the grade and the lab report before ordering.

Do you need a prescription for methylene blue?

Methylene blue sold as a dietary supplement does not require a prescription. The injectable form described on the FDA label for ProvayBlue is a prescription drug given by healthcare professionals, and compounded forms are prepared by prescription. Talk with your healthcare provider about which, if any, is appropriate for you.

How do I spot a fake or look-alike methylene blue seller?

Common signs are an unfamiliar seller name, a storefront selling unrelated goods, a price far below the brand's own, brand photos with no openable lab report, and a bottle that arrives looking different from the listing. Real methylene blue also colors water deep blue right away.

What should I do if a methylene blue package arrives that I did not order?

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service describes unordered packages like this as a brushing scam. Check your marketplace order history, do not take a supplement you cannot trace to a seller you chose, and report the seller to the marketplace.

Where is authentic Nutricel sold?

Authentic Nutricel is sold at nutricel.store, our official Amazon store, our Walmart storefront, our Etsy shop NutricelSupplements, and our Shop app store. The current list is on our Authentic Nutricel page.
